The Caucasian Shepherd, or Caucasian Ovcharka, is an enormous breed that can reach 200 pounds. For those unfamiliar with such large dogs, this size alone can intimidate. With proper guidance, however, this dog can be a loyal companion. Males live about 10–12 years, and the breed hails from Russia and neighboring European regions. Bred to guard and herd livestock, the Caucasian Shepherd is powerful and confident. Their size lets them excel at these jobs, but without training and socialization, they can become aggressive and dangerous.
