The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic altered everyone's life. Social distance became a painful reality due to lockdowns and quarantines. Bachir Moukarzel's shot "The Lockdown" showed how normally-busy roads and thoroughfares were abandoned when the restrictions were implemented.

The picture's gloomy, deserted boulevard used to be Dubai's busiest route, with about 7,000 cars passing across it every hour. The New York Times called the DJI Mavic Air 2, which can fly up to 2,000 feet, “the best drone” for photographers hoping to capture aerial, high-altitude photos, so it's possible that this drone was the one used. In 2020, the year this picture was shot, that was the publication's choice.
