6. The Tower of Shard
Location: London, United Kingdom
Total Cost: $1.9 Billion*
Year Finished: 2013
As the highest skyscraper in the United Kingdom, standing at 309.6 metres, The Shard is the centre of attention—or the sunlight, for that matter. The tower's name is derived from its shape, which is a glass shard. Where the former Southwark Towers stood before they were dismantled in 2008 is now the site of this inventive structure.

Renzo Piano's creation, The Shard, is located not far from Southwark Cathedral, The Clink Museum, and Borough Market, among other popular tourist destinations in London. Floors 34 through 52 of the Shangri-La Hotel are adorned with opulent furnishings, while the top 12 stories are home to private residences with some of the city's most breathtaking views.
